Winter ‘23
Type, Motion, After Effects, Collage

In this motion project, I was tasked to pick one minute of a song and create a video with a type of motion and imagery that represents the song. I picked “You’re Dead” by Norma Tanega, a folk song from 1966 that became popular from the mockumentary-style show about vampires called “What We Do In The Shadows.” For this video, I wanted to create a strange world with gothic vampiric mixed with the 60s folk style. To do this I created a series of collage backgrounds to look like it was filmed in the 60s and synced up the text to still fit the more upbeat nature of the song.

What I learned: This video really helped me learn more about After Effects tools and practice collage-style video making. I discovered how to use various tools and techniques to create visually engaging and dynamic videos, incorporating elements from different sources to tell a cohesive story. Through experimentation and practice, I gained a deeper understanding of how to use After Effects to bring my creative vision to life.
